with Mike Ditka dominated headlines when the Philadelphia Eagles returned to the playoffs following a six-year absence to play the Chicago Bears on New Year’s Eve 1988.Then weather stole the show.Late in the second quarter with the Bears leading 17-6 Youth Jake Elliott Jerseys , things got weird. A dense fog rolled in off Lake Michigan and seeped into Soldier Field.“I remember looking to the left side of the field and we thought the stadium was on fire because it was that thick and it was billowing over the side of the wall,” former Eagles middle linebacker Mike Reichenbach recalled this week. “It was like a horror movie. It kind of engulfed the stadium in no time.”CBS play-by-play announcer Verne Lundquist and analyst Terry Bradshaw couldn’t see the field from the booth. Fans in the stands had no idea what was happening.“It’s eerie,” Lundquist said on the broadcast before Bradshaw explained how warm weather — the temperature was in the mid-30s — mixed with cold water from the lake created the fog.The fog grew thicker after halftime and it became more difficult for players and fans at the game to see anything. Viewers couldn’t see the action on television even though CBS switched to its sideline cameras.Reichenbach said he had to run over to Ryan on the sideline to get the defensive calls before going back to relay it in the huddle. But the game continued despite poor visibility. When the officials met for a discussion in the end zone, Ryan sent Reichenbach over to find out what they were thinking.“They were looking to see the goal posts so we can play,” Reichenbach said. “They said: ‘Yeah, we can see it.’ I couldn’t see 20 yards. It was very dense. There was all kinds of stuff going on in the trenches, holding, punching. It got physical.”Eagles running back Keith Byars wasn’t sure what the officials were seeing.“I couldn’t see past the left tackle,” said Byars Jake Elliott Jerseys Stitched , who caught nine passes for 103 yards.Longtime Eagles play-by-play radio announcer Merrill Reese compares calling the game in the fog to staring at a white wall.“We saw absolutely nothing,” Reese said.Somehow, Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham racked up 407 yards passing, but he threw three interceptions and the offense could only manage four field goals in a 20-12 loss. Many Philadelphia players insist the outcome would’ve been different if it wasn’t for the fog. Byars said the Eagles would have gone on to win the Super Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers ended up defeating the Cincinnati Bengals for the championship.“I couldn’t see 15 yards past the line of scrimmage,” Cunningham said afterward. “We had to go to short passes. The Bears knew that, and they jumped all over it.”The Eagles won the NFC East in 1988 on the final day of the regular season, finishing 10-6 in Ryan’s third year with the team. The brash-talking Ryan was the defensive coordinator on Ditka’s staff in Chicago when the Bears destroyed the New England Patriots 46-10 in the Super Bowl following the 1985 season. Ryan was carried off the field after that victory and rode off to Philadelphia, declaring “You got a winner in town” on the day he was hired as head coach in 1986.There was plenty of animosity between Ryan and Ditka from the time they were together in Chicago and afterward. It boiled over during the week leading up to that playoff game, and Ryan had the team’s bus driver circle around Soldier Field to honk the horn when the Eagles arrived in Chicago the day before the game.“We come into the city and everybody is thinking about settling in Andre Dillard Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys , get to the hotel, think about the game, and Buddy wants to drive around the stadium honking the horns,” Reichenbach said. “I remember going to the stadium from the airport and the bus driver is honking the horn and nobody was there. We’re all thinking why are we doing this, but that was Buddy.”Chicago’s victory in the Fog Bowl 30 years ago is the only time the Bears have defeated the Eagles in three playoff meetings. The Bears (12-4) get another chance when they host the Eagles (9-7) on Sunday in an NFC wild-card game.Sans the fog, hopefully. Dave Gettleman has had it with you nerds"It’s time for the 5th annual Mock Draft Scoring. Who is the best? Who is the worst? Did anyone do both really well and yet not well at all? Will anyone actually be held accountable for any of this? (The answer to the last question is “never.”)The system is simple: for every pick the selection is off, you get a point. So if you mocked Daniel Jones to the Giants at 17, you get 11 points because he was taken 6th. Not everyone predicts trades, so if you predict a trade and get it wrong Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys 2019 , you get double the points. However if you predict a team trades up for a player and they do draft that player, just not at that spot, the penalty is waived. That’s it. Let’s get to the scores.2019 Mock Draft ScoringDrafterScore# CorrectWorst PickDrafterScore# CorrectWorst Pick*NickfoleonDynamite has been banned. I’m sorry but those are the rules. It was nice knowing you.Best drafter: Evan Silva, who was the 2017 winner and finished 5th in 2018. Honorable mention to Jenny Vrentas, who accurately mocked 12 picks, the highest total since I’ve been doing these. Silva had 9 correct picks, but came out on top by being close with the rest of his draft, 9 picks were off by five or fewer spots; his worst miss was Jawaan Taylor 4th overall, but six other mock drafters also mocked Taylor there as well Mens Andre Dillard Jersey , and everyone else had Taylor as a first rounder.Worst drafter: For the second year in a row PFF’s Steve Palazzolo had the worst mock draft. I’ve only included him the past two years, so retroactively he might be the best at being the worst. This year Palazzolo had a score of 741, which is an astonishing number and made even more impressive since he didn’t predict any trades to get penalized for. It’s far and away the worst mock draft I’ve ever scored, over 200 points more than his score last year. His only correct picks were the first two. He had two players mocked in the first round who went on the third day: Hakeem Butler (4th round) and Amani Ourwariye (5th round), and two who went in the 3rd round in Will Grier and Chase Winovich. Half his first round was off by at least 15 picks. Most common miss: The Raiders selecting Clelin Ferrell caught everybody off guard, including Clelin Ferrell. And as mentioned earlier, everyone had Jawaan Taylor as a first rounder, but he went a 35. And this won’t surprise anyone but nobody had Daniel Jones going to the Giants at 6.Kudos: The end of the draft is nearly impossible to predict, through teams reaching and players falling the board never unfolds the way anyone sees it happening Youth Andre Dillard Jersey , and generally there are quite a few trades with the last handful of picks that really throw things off. So job well done by Eric Galko, the only person to correctly predict that the Patriots would take N’Keal Harry at 32.Whoops: Luke Easterling and Will Brinson had the Cardinals taking Quinnen Williams first overall, Doug Farrar had the Raiders trading up to take Kyler Murray there.Bragging rights: I always include Mike Florio because he admittedly puts no effort into his mock drafts, and he always beats out a handful of people who are supposed experts. I also always include the BGN Community Mock Draft because it is done by people who are not professional mock drafters, and due to the time it takes to create it not every pick is privy to all the information that is available the week of the draft when everyone else is doing theirs. And every year it beats at least one professional football writer. Pat yourselves on the back. Except you NickfoleonDynamite, you bring us all shame. (Kidding. Sort of.)
